Authentic, Functional Design
One word – Simplify. We live in a fast-paced, busy world. Bombarded with imagery, constantly connected on devices. All the gaps in our lives are filled with … something. Creativity needs room to flourish. I make space in my life for ideas to develop. Inspired by the continuum of artistic ideas, I frame them in new ways. Striving for authentic, functional design. Subtle in its simplicity. Recognizable. Readable. Accessible to your audience.
I received my undergraduate degree from Millersville University and an M.A. in Humanities from Penn State University, where I received the Creative Achievement Award. I started my career as a photographer, writer and page designer for a small weekly newspaper; worked for several years in college public relations and returned to the newspaper industry as a graphic designer before starting my own business. I began my teaching career in 1993 at Penn State Harrisburg and am currently an adjunct professor at Elizabethtown College. I love teaching students the art of combining fine arts with graphic design. I am inspired and rewarded when I can encourage students to find their own voice in their works; when the light bulb goes on and they get it!
